Villa Alma
Komiza, island Vis, Croatia

Villa Alma is an authentic Dalmatian stone house, converted into a luxury villa but keeping the details intact. Villa Alma offers travel back in time of fishermen and brave sailors, displaying handcraft of skilled masters leaving us a heritage to us to enjoy. The exact date of its construction remains a secret, but the original stone Renaissance basin and loophole in the wall against pirates date from the 17th century.

It is perfectly situated in the heart of fishermen town Komiza, only few steps from the lovely pebble beach Lucica as well as from the restaurant and promenade area called Riva. Conveniently located at the end of the typical Dalmatian narrow street in the pedestrian area, this villa offers privacy and comfort for all members of the family or group.

On the ground floor of Villa Alma there is are spacious living room, fully equipped kitchen with authentic Dalmatian indoor fireplace, dining area for 10 persons, honesty wine-bar with fine local wines, smaller double bedroom and beautiful bathroom. Living room has an exit onto spacious paved courtyard and private garden full of Mediterranean plants and herbs. Stone fire place for grill or only atmosphere is next to the outdoor shower. Al fresco dinning for 10 persons, as well as sitting and relaxing spaces through the shaded garden is very enjoyable. Ceiling fan provides breeze on the warm evenings and afternoons. The smell of salty air and the sound of sea waves will put you to sleep in the evenings.

The tile romantic stairs take you to the first floor of Villa Almato the spacious master bedroom with king size bed, two lounge beds and a bathroom. Master bedroom opens to the shaded patio with relaxing area. Small balcony overlooks narrow cobbled street and offers partial sea view.

On the top floor, there are two double bedrooms with partial sea-views. On this floor there is also a luxury bathroom, equipped with hot Jacuzzi tub for two.

Few steps away, peabble beach Lucica has lovely beach bar, shade, free shower and changing room.

What a GEM of a place! Ratko & Alma were as accommodating and warm as could be. The villa is stunning. Terrific location, beautiful kitchen, fireplace, patio, bedrooms and bathrooms. I'll be recommending Villa Alma to all my friends and hope to return one day.

Beautiful house with lots of character. Very pretty outdoor space available for eating/ socialising. Great location close to everything but very quiet for sleeping.

Perfect location and beautiful place! Literally around the corner from the waterside restaurants and cafes, and also 75m from a great beach. Being half a block from the street means there's almost no noise. We had two families there (8 persons) with more than enough space for all. Lots of places to where you can privately retreat, or conversely, all get together. Loved it and loved Komiža- our new favorite Croatian town. We will be back!

What a wonderful time we had on the Island of Vis, staying at Villa Alma in Komiza! Alma arranged to have a taxi pick us up at the ferry landing, her husband Ratko, met us at "our beach" and showed us the way to our new home for the week. Both Apma and Ratko where so helpful in taking care of any and all questions we had, making our stay in their beautiful home magical. Their home, Villa Alma, is exquisite. Everything you need to feel at home. We enjoyed numerous meals on our private patio, while enjoying a fire. We feel in love with Komiza, and much of it is do to the thanks of our wonderful hosts and the home they have created, and share.

Absolute heaven on earth. Villa Alma was everything we could have wished for and more. Ratko met us as we drove into Komiza having come in on the late ferry. We arrived to a warm welcome with a cosy fire burning in the open plan living area. Whilst very spacious and bright with everything done up to a high standard, it is an incredibly romantic and traditional setting with seaviews from all the bedroom windows. There is a gorgeous enclosed garden (perfect for our toddler) and also a bright terrace outside the stunning master bedroom. Perfectly located in the peaceful happy fishing village of Komiza, within easy of the small shops, cafés, restaurants and the gentle hustle and bustle of the harbour, my young children loved popping over on their own to the bakery for fresh bread and milk first thing in the morning. We spent four glorious days up in the hills, paddling on the beach, exploring the smaller islands by boat and generally eating well and relaxing and enjoying time together as a family. Alma and Ratko and their daughter are fantastic hosts. Relaxed, welcoming, wonderfully interesting to talk to and incredibly efficient in replying to our enquiry. We would definitely love to come back soon for much longer.

We absolutely loved our stay in Komiza and truly enjoyed this beautiful home. The home was lovely and so close to everything, but so quiet and relaxing! We hope to come back to Komiza soon and would absolutely stay here again, and we would recommend it to anyone.

This house was truly perfect, even better than it looks on the pictures. The neighborhood is quiet and cosy, close to a small beach. Villa Alma is a great place for at least two families. Alma and her husband was very helpful and we had a wonderful stay. Komiza is great for relaxing, eating and small trips to beautiful places around Vis. We will absolutely come back some day!

Alma and Ratko were very helpful hosts - we were given a tour of the house, and then a tour of the town centre as soon as we arrived. That evening, Ratko helped us set up the fire so we could barbecue to our heart's content. The house itself is beautiful and very well equipped (we were super excited to discover a wine fridge!). It's also seconds from a sweet little beach. Overall, we had a fabulous stay and would love to stay at Villa Alma again!

We (8 adults and 5 kids) had a wonderful stay at Villa Alma and are very satisfied with both the villa and with the village of Komiza. Alma and Ratko were very nice and helpful. We can definitely recommend both the villa, the hosts and Komiza

David, Sweden on July 2015
I stayed in Villa Alma together with eight other adults (28-35 yrs, four couples amongst us) and one infant for one week in the middle of July, 2015. We had an amazing time, much thanks to the house, and I would not give our Airbnb arrangement any other mark than 5/5. Details: - The house was even better than what the Airbnb pictures had made us expect. It is an old (several hundred years) white-stone building that has been renovated very tastefully and quite recently. Everything was well-built and solid and there was little sound leakage between the three floors. We particularly liked the veranda/patio/outdoor space in the back, where five-six people could socialize, read, or just doze off, reclined and in the shade, after beach and in preparation of the dinner. There were seats for about twelve people at the large table, where we had all breakfasts and about half of the dinners during our stay. The patio also had a generous barbecue set-up that we put to good use. Further, the house was very well-equipped. Washing machine and dryer, drying rack, dishwasher, beach towels, a few beach umbrellas, air conditioning, kitchen utensils, china, silver, coffee maker, other appliances, speakers (good ones, too!) in the kitchen, wine cooler (!), wireless network, you name it. We honestly did not miss anything. - Next, the house is optimally -- literally optimally -- situated in Komiza. Walk out the main door and take a left and you'll find Lucica beach less than hundred meters away. Crystal clear water and a small beach bar. Crowd dominated by families with kids and locals. Take a right instead and you'll have the same distance to the cozy harbor/town square area. Villa Alma is smack in the middle of it, but still well isolated from noise and commotion. There were also at least three nice other beaches within walking distance from the house. All of us fell in love with Komiza. It is a beautiful and friendly town with plenty of good options for eating. You can also hire scooters, cars or boats for day trips. (Komiza is not the best place for drinking or clubbing.) - Finally, Alma's service was superb. We arrived at around midnight Sunday but she still greeted us in person, walked us through of the house AND showed us the harbor/town square. We had a small plumbing issue one day that we asked for help with; the plumber came by and fixed it within half a day. All correspondence was returned promptly and friendly; during the visit, within ten minutes. Flawless. In sum, I enthusiastically recommend Villa Alma and I would be very happy to return if I make a similar trip in the future. Even if I'm traveling with fewer friends I will seriously consider Alma's other options in Komiza. We had a great time.

This house is extremely beautiful and perfectly located. We were 10 friends staying for 3 nights and had a great time grilling outdoors and lounging on the terraces. Alma was super easy to contact and made our stay very comfortable. Its a gem and incredible value for a larger group. Highly recommended!

As other reviews said, the pictures and descriptions cannot do this house enough justice. The house was spectacular. We came with 3 family units (9 People), including a 5 year old, a 2 year old, and a 1 year old. The house was so family friendly. We had so much space to spread out, but lots of places to commune together. The house came equipped with everything needed. We had plenty of pots and pans, coffee maker, toaster, wine fridge. We literally needed nothing. A bathroom on every floor made it possible to relax with so many people in the same house. There was a cleaning service that came halfway through our stay and Alma and Roko was so easy to work with and communicate with. The house was less than 100 meters from the beach and only a few minutes to the stores in Komiza. After we parked our car, we never touched it until it was time to leave. The city is so easy to get around and the house was placed perfectly. Our favorite area was the patio out back, with a large table and huge stone fireplace/grill. We used it a few times to make meals, and again, it was equipped with everything we needed. We throughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay at Alma's if ever traveling with a group this size again. This was a magical house in a magical city on a magical island.

Nadine, Pennsylvania on September 2015

Magnificent! Villa Alma is better than pictured. The Villa is fully equipped, minutes from the beach and waterfront, cafes, and restaurants. Alma and Rako were wonderful. Always there to make sure things were ok and to give advice on local restaurants, tours. The Villa is spotless. Plenty of room. Outdoor space is great. We hated to leave and will be back. Thank you so much Alma and Radko for making our stay special!!!!

Amanda, Washington on May 2016

This was the absolutely perfect place to stay for our visit in Vis. The house is huge and just 2 minutes from the water and very clean and comfortable. Check in was very easy and both Alma and Ivana were super helpful and responsive. I think you would need a car to stay anywhere in Vis and we were very happy to have one. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

We have just returned from a week at Alma's house and had a truly wonderful time. The house is beautiful and gully equipped with many personal touches that lift the property and make your stat there even more special. The place is very clean too and the garden is beautiful with plenty of wood for outdoor barbecues on the spectacular open fireplace. The house is just 30m from one of the nicest beaches we experienced on the island and the town of Komiza is magical. The pace of life here is very relaxed so if this is what you're looking for then this place is for you. Alma and her partner were really friendly and helpful too and we thank them for sharing their wonderful house with us that gave us such a fabulous holiday

Sarah, Canada on June 2016

Most amazing week ever! The villa is beautiful, well stocked, and had lots of room for the 7 of us. It is right across from a beautiful beach and a few minutes from restaurants and grocery stores. We made full use of the outdoor fireplace to make several delicious meals, including local fresh fish. Alma and Ratko were beyond helpful and made us feel right at home. We all left Komiza relaxed and rejuvenated, and will miss the island and the villa very much!

Villa Alma is one of the best villa experiences I've ever had. This place was the highlight of our honeymoon. I recommend it to anyone looking for a true getaway.
